Come along to a Paddle Northern Ireland Recreational Paddle. Open to members and non members they are suitable for all abilities from beginners to experienced paddlers. These social paddles are a great opportunity to try paddling and get to know other paddlers making them ideal for individuals but also lots of fun for the whole family.
Paddling clubs are a great way to get involved, they can teach you new skills, let you try equipment before buying, guide you on safety and where to paddle and introduce you to a community of like-minded paddlers. Only affiliated clubs are listed on our finder, meaning they have to meet certain standards for club members.
The best way to start is with someone who is qualified & experienced - someone who can show you what to do and explain how to stay safe. Look for the British Canoeing Delivery Partner logo: these are providers of paddling courses, excursions & equipment who have agreed to the Delivery Partner Charter's high standards of safety, value for money and customer service.
The Paddle Safer Course is a 2-hour practical course which teaches you how to be safe on the water. You will be taught how to choose appropriate equipment and what environmental factors affect your paddling. The course is suitable for all ages and is great for families. You don’t need any previous experience to take part and can use any craft, including kayaks, canoes, SUPs, sit on tops and inflatables.
The Go Paddling website is the place to go for advice on starting your paddling journey. You can find regular blog posts on what boat to choose, what to wear and how to be safe on the water. There is also information on where to paddle, including routes, launch spots and wildlife.
The 'Introduction to Paddlesport' eLearning is a FREE Paddle UK resource. The 30-minute Go Paddling eLearning is a perfect introduction for anyone getting started with Paddlesport, it gives key information and tips to help new and returning paddlers get started safely. We recommend completing this before heading out on the water.
Paddlesport is a great interactive and social sport that all members of the community should be able to enjoy. However, there are many perceived barriers that prevent people from trying or participating in the sport. Paddle Northern Ireland aims is to work closely with organisations to break down these barriers so that everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, can feel welcome and comfortable to join.
